Improving The Performance Of Your Custom PC

The question of improving the performance of your personal computer goes back a long way- this question we think emerged with Windows 1995, whom every old person now has a love-hate-hate relationship, if one comes to think about it. So how does one improve the performance of personal computers?

This question is relative to the user of the personal computer. To be sure, no one can just go out and buy all the most efficient hardware packages out there. Not every one has that kind of cash at hand that readily. So what we are trying to do here is to isolate specific instances of poor PC performance and then we will try to remedy these without having to spend a cent- all you have to spend is time.

Spend some time with your PC. Review the specifications of your personal computer. What are the weak points of your system? Does it have a particularly shoddy memory? If it does, and you are having trouble lately, maybe it’s time to back up those files and reformat your computer, so that you would be able to remove all the cobwebs that you have accumulated through time. There is a fifty-fifty chance that reformatting your personal computer would bring back the efficiency of use- because everything is pristine again.

Another probable issue here is security. How secure is your personal computer? We are asking this because viruses and spyware can wreak havoc in the perceived performance of a personal computer. The worst case scenarios are personal computers that are called Aquariums.

These are badly maintained personal computers that have accumulated thousands of viruses over the past years. There are personal computers that have been clocked to have ten thousand viruses in just one scanning by particularly effective antivirus software. So what do you think?

Another probable problem is that you have low memory, and you’re running memory intensive software that automatically run in the background when you open your personal computer. If this is the case, it might be a good idea to uninstall some of the unneeded software in your computer.

If the problem is an anti-virus software, then maybe it’s time that you buy another one that is not so memory intensive. Some anti virus software take over so much of the capacities of the personal computer that everything slows down.

Again, all these can be accomplished if you know your computer first. There is also the question of age- there is a possibility that your personal computer is already aged, and the motherboard is already failing. If this is the case then you are in a particularly sticky situation- grounded motherboards are hopeless cases. Having them repaired is ultimately useless, because you would still be spending a lot more in the little repairs than just buying a new motherboard. In this case, be prepared to invest once again the long run.  This is especially true for personal computers that are more than 5 years old.
